The original pedal uses the LM301AN IC, which is now obsolete and hard to come by. The EQ will help you get the most from any amp you're pushing. Higher settings will give you amazing sustain. Crank the gain a bit and you've got a Marshall pushed to break up in the room. At lower gain settings it has a bit of dirt, but cleans up lovely with the guitar volume knocked back a touch.
